Educate. Heal. Feed.

LCCWA was founded in 2012 by a group of eminent citizens of Powai including retired professors of IIT Bombay, to work towards the development & upliftment of children living in nearby areas. LCCWA enables all-round development of these children by providing daily classroom coaching, weekly computer training, free nutritious meals every evening and regular health check-ups and hygiene education. Apart from helping to improve academic performance, the centre also helps reduce drop- out rates from schools and imparts social skills as well as a positive value system. Eventually, these are the qualities that we believe enable children to become responsible and pro-active citizens of the country.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide academic, emotional and nutritional support to children from Powai’s marginalised sections. We strive to facilitate holistic development to children who come from economically challenged backgrounds. We believe there is no lack of talent in children from any background; what they need more than anything, however, is a safe and nurturing environment where they can discover and tap into their immense potential.

OUR VALUES

  • Compassion for all

  • Genuine Care for children at our centre and their wellbeing

  • Discipline in all facets of work

  • Team work

  • Driving excellence

    • Giving individual attention to students

    • Show inter-relationship between various subjects and practical implementation

Prof. Agashe is a retired Professor from IIT Bombay and it is his love for children that led him to become an integral part of LCCWA. He firmly believes that the most crucial years of a child's life are in their formative years and therefore they need to be nurtured right from a young age. He guides and advises LCCWA on all major decisions and has played an invaluable role in shaping LCCWA over the years.

People We Miss

Late Prof. Amitabh Gupta, Founding Member

Prof. Gupta (retired professor, IIT Bombay) can be credited for making LCCWA the institution that it is today. He had an immense passion for teaching and was deeply   moved   when   he   found that children from low-income backgrounds ended up dropping out of school, being forced into child labour or even child marriage. This realization inspired him and his wife to gather funds and rent a small room in a marginalised area opposite IIT Bombay, thus planting a seed that was to grow into LCCWA in later years. His efforts have ensured that that all teachers at LCCWA follow a systematic and scientific method while teaching, and that students develop an aptitude for science.
